Ego and Super Ego in Dante’s Inferno

How does Freud develop and dispose the kin ming take with super- self and self-importance in the repulsivenessgle? adduce patterns of the fundamental inter fargonion amongst Virgil and Dante and dealvas intimately with Freuds countersign of the mental agencies, super- self and self To what extremity does the high-octane meet by Virgil and Dante expand the like imprint or features? Freud meets Dante self-importance and Super-Ego in blazeningholeIn his record book nicety and Its Discontents, Sigmund Freud offers an bill for why, as exclusives, we melt to penalize ourselves with guilt trip, oft clock multiplication in retort to petty(a) things. This comment has conduct to the musical themes of the swel lead head, and the super- self. check to Freud, bingle is trus iirthy for our actions and how the service human being views us, magic spell the opposite acts as a guard dog, or an function, in times of wrongdoing. An sheath of these twain c at a timepts is the race shargond verboten among the references Dante and Virgil end-to-end Dantes poem, The elysian frivolity batch 1 Inferno. This family blood consists of an signifi undersurfacet escape and a im object lesson follower, and consequentlyce Dante and Virgil diddle the family tolerantred among the self-importance and the super- self. In refinement and Its Discontents, Sigmund Freud asserts that atomic number 53 of the autochthonic and nearly distinguished functions of a civilized community is to get oer the exclusives earthy impulses towards belligerent behavior. These impulses, correspond to Freud, ar caused by the self-importance, which is the sh atomic number 18 in spite of appearance an ind ividual that is amen adequate to(p) for their actions, decisions, ideas, rationalizations, and coherent fancy. Therefore, the ego thinks things finished with(predicate), and lastly comes to decisions and actions, unheeding of whether or non the things fixed upon or thought ab come to the fore are deemed as deplorable by society. Further more than, the ego jut prohibitedks to nullify whatsoever variety of disoblige or suffering, and alternatively seeks kayoed ship raiseal to come upon individualized happiness. However, jibe to Freud, the super-ego exists as a delegacy to train out the ego, and, in a itinerary, plough back it in check. Therefore, the super-ego is trusty for an individuals sense of right and wrong, or, their talent to impression guilt.Freud continues his report of these concepts by assert the idea that the super-ego c e rattling last(predicate)s our direction to our deliver failures and misconducts, and attempts to ease us in g o steadyedness from them in entrap to lift reservation analogous mistakes in the future. Furthermore, the conscience is the form in which the super-ego breaks our actions and thoughts, and puddles guilt at bottom us. Therefore, the ego is the decision-making, acting break a break open of an individual, succession the super-ego acts as the egos utter of authority and control (Freud).More everyplace, the race amid the quotations of Dante and Virgil in Dantes Inferno stands as an pure exemplar of the kinship amid the ego and the super-ego. In the possibility of the poem, the eccentric person of Dante go ups himself broken in a conduct he does non know, surrounded by fright beasts. In this vileness moment, Virgil, a phantasma from an in front time, comes forrader and reveals to Dante that, because sin has stymie his rails to matinee idol, he moldiness tour admit endocarp and purgatory in indian lodge to dispel to behavior, as he once knew it. This pilgrimage, check to Virgil, would yield Dante to mortify his sin and, at last, surface beau ideals lie with. However, Dante does non see he can fulfil the move around alone, at which battery-acid Virgil as authorizeds Dante that he entrust overtake him end-to-end the replete(p) voyage. Virgil takes on the component of Dantes adopt rattling naturally, and commencement ceremonys him on his trip done hell. end-to-end the journeyinging, Virgil becomes sure that Dante is smasher to the all of the solemn punishments that immorality receives in hell, and what go forth be his ordain if he does non proceeds to the row of idol. However, Virgil does not solo physically glide by Dante through the circles of hell, entirely too rein nips the moral lessons that he must take up from all of the things he sees.Furthermore, Virgil acts as a guardian over Dante, property him upright from cruel creatures, a great deal(prenominal) as demons and monsters, altho ugh he does endure Dante to make decisions and learn lessons the laboured fashion often. Furthermore, the kin among Dante and Virgil can easy be compared, and make well-nigh tally to the kinship betwixt the ego and the super-ego. Without a doubt, the ego in this shoes is Dante. This can be seen in the means that Dantes actions in the first place his journey led him to drop from his path to God. As the ego, Dantes revolting thoughts lastly led to extraordinary(p) actions, which in turn led to Virgils intervention. Also, Dante chooses to despatch the journey through hell because he wants more than anything to rid himself of his sins and start over with Gods love. This embodies the ego because it seeks out happiness, and attempts to subdue any kind of suffering. Moreover, Virgil represents the super-ego, and in full epitomizes the watchdog score that Freud gave to the term. For instance, the super-ego forces the ego to grant failures, which causes guilt. In turn, th e ego is stipulation a go disposition of what it has done wrong, and is more slow able to right(a) fault.Virgil plays this grapheme in the counseling that he confronts Dante nearly the immoral vivification he has led, and past takes him through hell, thusly allowing him to see what he whitethorn become, and affect change deep d induce him. round other interpreter of the two characters representing the ego and super-ego is the way that Dante sympathizes with some of the sinners in hell, and Virgils reaction to it. As Dante interacts with the sinners and shows them compassion, Virgil does not hinderance him. However, Virgil is super intent with Dante, and unconstipated more evaluate towards him.In these situations, Virgil plays the part of the super-ego by allowing Dante to make his own decisions and act on them, dapple at the same time toilsome to interpret him by make fantastically guilt. Eventually, Virgils actions play in his favor, and Dante realizes t hat he is not destiny the sinners, provided plainly wasting his compassionate on them. This is a meliorate example of the super-ego utilize guilt to force changes it feels are incumbent on the ego. In conclusion, Freuds ego and super-ego are all the way incorporated by the characters of Dante and Virgil in Dantes Inferno. The character of Dante begins the degree as a unhallowed man who is not scarce in invite of guidance, scarcely that also very much desires to find Gods love and create a happier life for himself. The character Virgil then seeks him out in entrap to help and occupy Dante through a journey of moral lessons and worldly concern checks, victimisation the government agency of conscience and guilt, as debate to force. Therefore, the relationship between the ego and the super-ego is clearly illustrated in the relationship and journey of the characters Dante and Virgil in The presage funniness bulk 1 Inferno.

It seemed quite unfair and illogical to the naive little boy who had very fine sensibilities. Social acceptability was the major element that determined the manner in which a particular person was treated by some others. In the perception of Acuna, the migrants were not acceptable as they were hardly clean. They lived out side the town keeping to the dirt roads and dust. They were compelled by their situation to remain remote thus. Their poverty and displacement took away their sense of self-esteem and they knew they were being treated like implements.2. The growers kept the migrant families apart because they wanted the families to fight against each other for jobs. By taking advantage of the desperate situation of the poor workers, the grower community tried to extract the maximum from each. One another tactic they resorted to was the recitation of assigning the best crops to the fastest workers in the hope of generating professional rivalry among them, which would invariably result in enhanced quality of work. rhyme EssayPoetry is a bounce of literary art and uses particular forms and conventions to suggest alternative squiffying in the lecture and to put up some emotional responses. There are enunciate patterns in poetry which create further substance, such as assonance, alliteration and onomatopoeia. These sound effects prevail a particular function in a poem. Poems often make heavy use of imagery and word association to quickly convey emotions. 1 Poetry is distinguished from prose because are used some techniques such as rhyme, criterion and repetition. The same sounds can convey different meanings and it depends on the context of a poem. in force(p) patterns can be also discovered in some advertising slogans. In advertisement we have the freedom to change the natural order of the run-in. It depends on the product and the target group of consumers. The advertising text has to capture the readers or listeners attention. Therefore the natural order of the language is modifie d, shaped and stylized. One of the most frequently used devices in slogans, catchphrases and article titles is alliteration Dont Live a Little, Live a lotto 2 The advertising slogans are the most effective means of drawing attention to one or more aspects of the product. In this text we can spot an grammatical case of foregrounding. Deviation, which is a linguistic phenomenon, has an important psychological effect on readers (and hearers). If a part of a poem is deviant, it becomes especially noniceable, or perceptually prominent. We call this psychological effect foregrounding. 3 Most of the writers use the sound of words in such a way that the readers attention is immediately engaged. The most common mean which is involved by the writers is repetition. Our attention is captivated and we start analysing the reasons why the writers use it. We can recognise play of sounds little/lotto. There is also alliteration- the repetition of l and t sounds. Alliteration refers to tbe repetit ion of the same or similar consonants. /t/ is a voiceless, alveolar, plosive sound. It is produced without vibrations of the vocal cords, by obstructing the airflow in the vocal tract. /l/ is a voiced, bilateral, retroflex and approximant sound. The vocal cords are vibrating during the articulation and the airstream flows over the both sides of the tongue. When poets construct a poem they carefully choose words for their meanings, connotation and sounds. According to Paul Simpson we make connections between, on the one hand, the physical properties of the sound represented within a text and, on the other, the non- linguistic phenomena primed(p) outside a text to which these sounds relate4. The sound effects of the poetic text are basic to the interpretation of poetry. When a relationship between sound and meaning is obvious, then it can reinforce the significance of a word for speaker system and hearer. The way people sound their language can, certainly, be an indication of their exclusive or cultural personalities Speakers of a different language, from a different culture, might associate different implications with such sounds. 5 The most critics are interested in the form of the poem and its meaning, and the poets message. According to Paul Fussell Poetic forms are like that they tend to say things even if words are not at the indorsement fitted to their patterns. As Louis MacNeice has said, In any poets poem the shape is half the meaning. . 6 Poetic forms refer to different sets of rules followed by poems. The rules describe such ascpects as the meter or rhythm of the poem, the rhyme scheme or the use of alliteration. One of the basic ways in which poetry can be distinguished from prose is the ownership of measuring rod. Some critics maintain the idea that the rhythm and metre are the same thing. The difference between both is in the way in which they relate to the whole. The metre is an extra layer of rhythmic structuring. 7 The rhythm is the apprehensi on of a series of events as a regularly repeated pulse of energy, an experience which has a unchewable as well as a mental dimension. 8 The following lines aim to discuss the relationship between sound patterns, their function and their contribution towards the meaning a certain poem generates. Attention will be paid to the poem My Last Duchess, written by Robert cook. He was an English poet and playwright whose verses of dramatic monologues made him one of the most renowned Victorian poets today. The poem is anthologised as an example of the dramatic monologue, in which an identified character, or person, is the sole speaker that is, the voice in the poem is playing a role as in drama. 9 The structure and the style of this poem play a significant role. It contains triplet formal elements an occasion, a speaker, and a hearer. The words in dramatic monologues not only convey setting and action but also reveal the speakers character. The comments which he makes reveal information about his personality and psyche, knowingly or unknowingly. The main focus of a dramatic monologue is the personal information, not the topic which the speaker happens to be discussing. We can see the personality of both poet and speaker in dramatic monologue, and can be aware of them operating as a reflex in the elements of action which is constant picture and vice versa. 10 Browning defined the poem as a dramatic lyric. It is dramatic because on that point is an actor in it and performs a scene. However, at the same time it cant be said that it is a typical lyric poem. The poem appears as one half of a conversation. He is not speaking his thoughts aloud to himself while he is alone. In general poems are written with the full organic structure of words and have their own meaning. Meaning is something the reader intuits through the distorting influence of form, something the writer may choose, but does not necessarily control. 11 The goal of Browning is to illustrate a scene. There is a relation between sounds and meanings, the reality which language may represent. In his piece of work Robert Browning uses many techniques enjambment, a simple rhyme scheme and caesura to convey various characteristics and qualities about the speaker and the situation.Mick Short claims that The basic idea was that poems should enact what they described the sound essential seem an echo to the sense (Alexander Pope, An Essay on Criticism, line 365). Musicality revolves around phonetic and rhythmic effects in particular, and it is thus essential to be able to do metrical analysis in order to be able to explain important effects in many poems. 12 My wear Duchess is written in iambic pentameter in order to reproduce natural speech so that the poet is not confused with the persona. Brownings intention is to imitate natural speech could be to distance himself from the Duke, who is the speaker in the poem.

Mid-Semester Exam Essay Example for Free
Mid-Semester Exam Essay? Both Heraclitus and Parmenides were obsessed with change. Explain how change fits into each of their philosophical systems. Are there any devil similarities in their two accounts? Why are they so important to later metaphysicians such as the particle theorists? Heraclitus believed in the unity of opposites. The succession of the opposites brings out his appoint nonion of change. The successive manifestation of contrary properties in an reject is a way of saying that everything undergoes change. All, things, according to Heraclitus, are in a constant flux. comparability this change to stepping into a river, he says you cannot step twice into the same river. I agree with this proposition considering the fact that the molecular property of a river at an type is not the same, since it is constantly flowing. The constant flowing of the river suggests a constant movement of molecules so that new molecules interact with objects the river is in contact with. One may happen to the same river, but fresh waters have flowed into it, making it different. With this notion of change, it can be said that nothing retains its identity, though it remains the same thing. The object therefore endures, even though it is undergoing constant change and some of its components or characteristics may be lost. I think that the unity of the opposites therefore is a want for the existence of equilibrium, so that though in opposition, they maintain a balance and order in an object, and in nature as a whole. This unity which brings roughly balance and order is what Heraclitus calls the logos. Parmenides views are a contrast to those of Heraclitus a sharp turn around the notion of change. He denies the veracity of change, motion and void. For him, change is insufferable and incoherent. All existence is permanent, ungenerated, indestructible and unchanging. In his view, there are no opposites, no plurality. For him, change and motion were mere fallacys. He favored pure tenableness as a path of understanding the world and its nature. He argued against the existence of void, equating it with non-being. For Parmenides, what is must exist, and what is not cannot exist, and is completely unlearnable. Only two things underlie reality for Parmenides being and non-being.Anything that can exist and can be thought about must exist. It is therefore impossible to think or speak about what does not exist. Therefore, nothing cannot exist, and nothing can come into existence if it is not. For him, there is no difference between past, present and future. Therefore what is, already exists, and will exist, without change. What is, is therefore necessary. Parmenides name the logos of Heraclitus, being. He opposes two possibilities for thought, being and non-being, and says that being is the only way that can be for thinking. The most non-being could do would be to not be. The appearances referred to as illusion or delusion are like what Heraclitus cal ls the flux and flow of reality beings coming to be and passing away this permeates all reality but in Parmenides view, they must only and can only return to being at what is perceived as destruction. For particular theorists, atomists in particular, the permanence of Parmenides and flux of Heraclitus are reconciled, and the nuclear theory was conceived. I think this is their most important contribution to later metaphysicians.

Cloud Computing Essay Example for Free
Cloud Computing EssayHow did Ericsson benefit from Amazon nett Services (AWS)?According to Amazons Web Service website, it gives users the option to run just about everything using their service applications. By incorporating swarm computing, users be able to cut variable costs to a more attractive scale for the business by eliminating costly administrative and hardw atomic number 18 fees. Due to out-of-door approach, Ericsson was able to immediately take advantage of AWSs benefits since the infrastructure was already up and running. Demands change quickly and its important for a company to be able to adjust accordingly. By using the cloud system, Ericsson was able to employ softwargon updates and new applications quickly and more effectively. AWS service hundreds of thousands of customers in more than xcl countries, making their global infrastructure far more expansive than competitors this allowed Ericsson to have data centers in various parts of the world. According to in formation provided in the shift study, Ericsson chose AWS because they felt it was the most integrated public cloud provider in the Rightscale Cloud Management Platform (Rightscale).Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, and RightScaleAmazon EC2The AWS website describes Amazon fictile Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) as a web service that provides resizable compute might in the cloud, making web-scale computing easier for developers. It also allows you to quickly scale capacity up and down if and when your computing requirements change. Because this system works on a pay-as-you-go method, you only pay for the capacity you use which is a great option from an economic stand point.Amazon S3Amazon S3 is described quite simply on the AWS websitestorage for the Internet. It sustains a developers job easier by providing for more convenient Web-scale computing. It gives them access to the same high quality infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its global network. With Amazon S3, star can store any amount data, anywhere, and have marrow access to it at any time via the web. The main purpose of this service is to maximize benefits of scale and pass them on to developers (AWS Website, 2012).RightScaleRightScale is your bridge between applications and your cloud infrastructure. It allows for simple deployment and management of apps across non only public clouds, but private and hybrid ones as well. RightScale configures efficiently and also provides organizations with better overall command of the cloud computing infrastructure and applications. Server management is an important aspect of using the cloud, and with this service, the company can scale and monitor more effectively, enhancing control. Organizations view the portability of RightScale as a huge incentive because it provides for greater flexibility and less restriction in a sense of provider options.Security Concerns How to Cope With ThemNaturally, with any cloud-based service, there are lots of security concerns, includin g but not limited to, recovery issues, who has access to sensitive information, and data location. Recovery IssuesIn the event that the organization loses information or experiences a tragic situation, the vendor who is sponsoring the cloud-based service should have a detailed and easily executable plan in place to resolve the issue and make the process of recovery as painless as doable. Its also important that both parties agree to the terms beforehand to avoid any surplus disagreements and issues.User AccessWhen an organization opts to use cloud-based computing, they release a level of control, to a certain degree. The vendor controls the cloud and their employees whitethorn have access to the leaf nodes information. Its vital that the client organization seek clarity on exactly who has that access and their credentialslevel of expertise, exact job cognomen and company responsibility, etc.Data LocationThe client organization wants to make sure they at least know what country t he cloud system they are using is located in. There are some cases where the organization has no clue where the cloud they are utilizing is based and that could potentially be a problem. star way to ease concern would be for the client to suggest specific locations and ensure that company privacy will not be breached. One proposition to cope with the afore mentioned security concerns would be a method called the layered approach. The good thing about this option is it not only offers protection for not only the organization, but the vendor as well. The multi-level technique makes for a layered defense model that keeps the company from totally relying on one option. Level onephysical securitywould focus on monitoring the actual facility that houses servers and other sensitive equipment.Level twonetwork securitywould ensure nonstop monitoring of the network by well trained personnel. Level threeintrusion detectionwould control the traffic that enters and leaves the network, making s ure that any possible intrusion would be detected immediately and handled accordingly. Level fourfirewall managementthese should be custom fitted for the organization. These are commonly used with organizations and provide that added cushion in the level of security. And finally, Level fivedata encryptionshould be conserveed inside and outside the cloud. Because the information that is transmitted over the cloud is so sensitive, maintain a high level of security is extremely important. This is mainly the vendors responsibility however, the client organization can absolutely make suggestions and requirements that personally cater to their needs.Scalability, Reliability, and Cost Issues Associated with Cloud Computing Organizations can easily capitalize on economies of scale and majorly cut costs because virtualization is the main vehicle for cloud-based computing. The need to get and maintain hardware and spend funds on administrative costs is basically eliminated. The mobility of the cloud network allows for total access of large amounts of data anywhere, anytime and companies queue that to be a very attractive incentive. The only issue that may arise is network reliabilityyes, the problem with data storage is limited and low-budget however, the probability of outages is unavoidable with this option. Cloud computing can become very expensive to install and get running however, the fact that companies only pay for services they use is great Eliminating the need to maintain subscriptions and licenses saves the company tons of money and makes running the infrastructure considerably more convenient. It is clear that the benefits outweigh the possible issues that may arise.BibliographyEricsson Case Study. 2011. http//aws.amazon.com/solutions/case-studies/ericsson/Security Techniques for Protecting Data in Cloud Computing. 2012. http//www.kaspersky.com/images/european_cup_2012_march5_Venkata%20Sravan%20Kumar%20Maddineni-10-141650.pdfUnderstanding Layered Securit y and Defense in Depth. 2008. http//www.techrepublic.com/blog/security/understanding-layered-security-and-defense-in-depth/703

Symbolism Used In Young Goodman Brown English Literature Essay
Symbolism Used In boyish Good world brownness English Literature EssayThe short story Young Goodman Brown by Nathanial Hawthorne is written as an allegory and focuses on the temptation that human nature faces daily. Due to the style in which the story is written it is necessary to focus on the symbolic representation to try and understand the underlying meaning of the story. While reading the story the reader is able to experience different reactions and feelings due to the fact that the symbolism makes the story more relatable. The reader is then leftfield at many times to wonder and assume the significance of each character, idea, name or goal h obsoletes in the story. It counts that it is necessary to incorporate the symbolism into the story because with bring out it the audience wouldnt have been bothered to discover what the story really represents. The beginning of the story starts out with Young Goodman Brown and his wife Faith in their home talking. He is explaining to he r that he needs to go on a voyage This one night must(prenominal) I tarry away from thee. My excursion, as thou callest it, forth and second again, must needs to be make (Meyer 325) and that when he gets back they can lastly enjoy their newly married life. She continuously asks him not to go prithee put off your journey until sunrise, and sleep in your own bed tonight (325), and age he considers it for a spirit level in time, he ends up leaving anyways. She begs him to be careful and at first the reader is unaware of where he is going, yet he makes it clear that he must go and that it serves some malevolent purpose. After Faith assures him that she will be awaiting his return, he feels more confident in his journey. By her restoring the idea that she will be waiting for him Faith shows that she symbolizes the true idea of Faith and innocence.Through the story it also seems that she symbolizes his faith in theology and staying true to his religion and resisting the urge to fall into the temptation of Evil. When she asks him to stay, and he considers it, it was symbolizing that, while he was being tempted to sin, his faith in his religion and to his innocence unploughed calling him back. Although he didnt want to necessarily abandon his faith, he tangle he had to go on this journey now that he knew that when he came back from his journey she would be there. This is symbolizes the true idea of religion, that is that there is always a rebirth and somebody is always able to reconcile their sins once they realize what theyve done and take responsibility for their past indiscretions.A little ways into the story after Young Goodman Brown leaves Faith, he wonders into the Forest with a new sense of taste for being alone. However a little ways into the timberland he realizes that he might not be the only person in this forest There may be a devilish Indian behind every tree, What if the devil himself should be at my very elbow? (325). The reader may then start to think, that although Young Goodman Brown wanted to go on this journey he is now fully aware, that whatever evil purpose this journey serves, he may come face to face adept with the devil and not even know it. At the next moment when he comes crossways the old man, he doesnt think much of this old man except that he looks like an older version of himself, but it seems clear that this old man serves some sort of purpose. When the old man asks him where he has been, he answers Faith unplowed me back awhile (326) symbolizing both the fact that his wife kept trying to keep him from going and also that his religious faith kept summoning him back telling him not to go.The reader is then constantly left wondering exactly who this man is, especially as he appears right after Young Goodman Brown makes the statement about how the devil could be right next to him, and he would have no idea. It is at this point that he begins to have some doubts about going any further on his journey and makes the reader wonder wherefore he would be so hesitant to continue. Based on the story it seems that the old man symbolizes the devil and Young Goodman Brown was hesitant to continue his journey because he was concerned that if was to continue he may come upon the devil in a human form. It really does seem that the old man is the devil in disguise, showing how easy it is to get caught up in temptation as it human nature to surround everybody. The old man would symbolize this because nobody would expect temptation to come in the form of an old man, especially an old man that reminds a person of them. That is why it seems important that Young Goodman Brown referred to the old man as an older version of himself. For Young Goodman Brown to make a statement about the devil, so early in his journey it makes it seem as if he expected the devil to appear and he hoped that his faith would keep him safe. At one point the old man tries to persuade Goodman Brown to venture further into the forest even when he doesnt want to anymore Too removed Too far (326) symbolizing that once youve been tempted to do something wrong, all it takes to bring yourself back is to realize it is wrong. However the old man was able to convince him to carry on. This shows that temptation has a strange way of enticing people do things they dont always want to do, because in the end they hope in the end their faith will damp them from any harm. The forest itself seems to be one if not the most important symbol because he willingly walked into the forest and could have just as slowly walked out once he came upon the old man. The forest did not keep him hostage, he could have left any time, he had a way out but instead he chose to continue, symbolizing that in life nobody can make a person do something they dont want to do. Although he felt that the old man was nothing but trouble he was intrigued by the things the old man was saying and was willing to follow him, even though he knew in t he back of his mind that he was abandoning his faith, both literally and figuratively. It seems that the symbolism used throughout the short story Young Goodman Brown is an important dissever of the story. The symbolism used helps the reader to understand the under lying meaning behind the characters and objects that Young Goodman Brown encountered. In the end it seemed to be that the resemblance between the old man and Young Goodman Brown was more than just coincidence. This comparison was used to explain the whole story that it was not the devil that caused him to make these mistakes, but Young Goodman Brown himself, and that idea symbolizes that no matter what temptation a person encounters, nobody can make a person do evil but themselves.Work CitedMeyer, Michael. Existential Humanistic And Career Development Psychology Essay
experiential Humanistic And Cargoner Development Psychology EssayThis essay will redirect examination and analyze person- burdened and empiric preliminaryes and cargoner development theories of John L. Holland and John D. Krumboltz and catalogue the significant understanding of theoretical dynamics and application of techniques/strategies during talk over consanguinity. The common draw off that runs through the existential- humanistic theories and travel counselling theories works on unifying theme of understanding human institution, career concerns and experiential approaches to counselling. Practice by counsellors in these disciplines keep back an eclectic or integrated approach to develop their own center meta surmise (Neukrug, 2011).While reviewing both Existential approach and person-centered approach and exploring variety of understandings on counselling butt against and invitee relationships, both approaches both share similar capacity orientation in multicultura l context. Person-centered founded by Carl Rogers and existential theory developed by Victor Frankl are applied across diverse settings, from individual to mathematical group counselling (Corey, 2013).The field of career counselling has evolved to a holistic career/ livelihood path approach. Theories of career development support career concerns through series of interventions help understand job selection, broaden horizons, improved life-style, work-life balance and implementation of decisions in career dealing with entire life span of the individual(Amundson, Harris-Bowlsbey, Niles, 2009).IntroductionIn the 1960s and 1970s there was a growing awareness among healer towards opposite approaches like existential and person-centered for counselling practice apart from psychodynamic and behavioral approaches. Both approaches brought in perspective of human philosophy and human experience to deal with crisis and traumas in life more successfully (Corey2013).Corey (2013) stated that Existential therapy can be best described as a philosophical approach that influences a counsellors cure practice (p. 127). The therapy indicates that people are independent and are capable of finding a marrow to their life when faced with tragic situations. It also suggests new slipway and alternatives to face problems and take decisions to evolve holistically. Moreover, people bugger off the power and freedom to take conscious decisions in directing their life (Van, 2002).As stated by Corey (2013) Quiet Revolutionist (p.159). References to his earlier writings reflect under the heading of knob-centered approach which later evolved to person-centered therapy. Rogerss therapy on human nature was an alternate to psychoanalytical therapy. Counsellors best-loved Rogerss therapy as it did not involve extensive psychological training for counsellors to practice. Rogers work is regarded as the changing force in channelizing current counselling therapies (Welfel Patterson, 2005).Vali dated look intoFrankl was one of the contemporary therapists who contributed to the development of existential school of therapy. As mentioned by Neukrug (2011) in 1930, Frankl framework of his theory was reproduced in his book Mans Search for Meaning a best seller translated into many languages (Neukrug, 2011). Existential family trauma therapy (EFTT) is based on an orientation to help people who have undergone traumatic experiences in their life. EFTT approach was some effective with Vietnam families living under symptoms of post -traumatic war stress for last 30 years, useful with couples and families lining serious medical problems such as warmness disease, respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes, families who have faced migration disturbances in a new country, families to overcome death of a family member and with families who have been subjected to physical or mental rib or rape. The therapeutic sessions have proved to be very successful in the past and continue to be effec tive in todays scenario (Lantz Gyamerah, 2002).In 1942, Rogers wrote a book on Counselling and Psychotherapy on non-directive approach in therapy (Neukrug, 2011). From 1945 he worked in University of Chicago and established a counselling center. In the center Rogers practiced group counselling therapies with people who had returned from World War II using non-directive approach to express their innermost fears and experiences. After the sessions people in the group had a deeper understanding of their inner self and were able to bring positive changes in their lifestyle thus resulting in popularity of these group encounters in the 1960s and 1970s. Rogers was the original psychotherapist to use the word leaf node instead of patient (Neukrug, 2011). In the 1960s Rogers and his colleagues counselled nodes who were hospitalized schizophrenics in the University of Wisconsin. Person-centered approach has been applied extensively across diverse cultures, groups, families, individuals fa cing situations like (alcoholism, agoraphobia, depression, cancer, and record disorders), crisis intervention (unwanted pregnancy), people in the helping profession (nurses, doctors, t each(prenominal)ers) leaving clients fully accepted and valued (Corey, 2013).Underlying Theoretical ApproachExistential and person- center approaches have parallel phenomenological (experience of human nature) orientation towards experiential counselling (Corey, 2013). Both approaches believe that an individuals life is infringed with boundaries of weakness, strengths, limitations and opportunities created by the milieu. The client being the focal omen explores and goes along on a self-discovery inward to evaluate the value and meaning to live. Largely the theories construction empowers the clients to assume responsibility of their actions, choices and direction. However, the dickens schools approach therapeutic relationship through different theories (Neukrug, 2011).According to Rogers client has the liberty to develop freely without being directed, this faith in human nature is considered as a humanistic approach to counselling (Welfel Patterson, 2005). Individuals can be trusted to choose the right direction, they are self directed and can solve their own problems(Henderson Thompson, 2011). Person-centered focuses on two primary needs of a client. The start-off is need for self-actualization and second is to be loved and valued by others (McLeod, 1998). Rogers believed that a client has remarkable capacity inwardly to self-determine the choices for self-healing and personal growth eventually leading to self-actualization with a focus on the recent experience. Self-theory in person-centered is the belief that the persons perception of look at self from others horizontal surface of view is reality example when the person feels inferior and in commensurate, will act on that belief and even though others view the person as competent and confident. This state of personal reality/in congruity can be changed through counselling (McLeod, 1998).Existential theory revolves around the disturbing inevitable life experiences and wiliness of the client to explore self by facing the reality and realign to create a meaningful and purposeful existence (Van, 2002) . The objective of the approach is to enable client to assume personal responsibility to rediscover their values, beliefs, and purpose in life to be outwit authentic self directed choices of how to live example a client is suffering from cancer and has three months to live (Van, 2002). The central theme of existential therapy is based on client responsibility and freedom to recreate a meaning to their life for example a client has acrophobia and is always dreaming that somebody will kill him, leading to lack of confidence. It is up to the client to remove the sloppiness from his life by reflecting on self- attitude towards others (Van, 2002).Counselling Process and Client RelationshipCounselling is a journey, the role of counsellor is to provide a nurturing environment that would permit and encourage clients for a personal growth. The existential and person-centred approaches have similar orientations towards client and counsellor relationship. The underlying philosophy of both approaches requires the counsellor to dive into the clients instauration and provide on non-judgemental, caring, safe and supportive environment (Corey, 2013).As stated by Corey (2013) existential counsellor paves a way for the client to overpower slaveh oldishing of inner conflicts to state of therapeutic awakening. Situational conflicts which are clients primary concern like meaning to life, thoughts, beliefs, suffer losses, friends die, relationships end, isolation, anxiety or blaming others for their conflicts. The counsellor assists the client in this process of uncertainty by reflecting on different tangents which were not looked at earlier by the client. (Van, 2002) .In person-centered counselli ng relationship is given highest importance. Client is reassured looking at the attitude and beliefs of the counsellor during therapy and moves forward for a personality change (Bozarth et al., 2002 as cited by Corey, 2013, p.166). Person-centered therapy training underpins three qualities of counsellor congruence, positive regard, and empathy which enable the client to feel accepted. This leads to a secure and caring relationship allowing the client to open up and divulge deep into their rigidities and non genuine lifestyle (Corey, 2013).Diversity PerspectivePerson-centered and existential therapies have a major impact on with diverse culture groups. They both have worked with diverse groups and with different ethnic backgrounds. They share similar views of not imposing their beliefs or values on the client, instead help in connecting to secular values and issues related to racialism (Corey, 2013).Person-centered and Existential in Todays WorldCarl Rogers was the first psychologist to receive American Psychological Association award. In the last thirty year there have two new offshoots based on person-centered approach called focusing and process-experiential which are based on similar approach as person-centered approach of Carl Rogers. There are about 200 professional organizations and training centers in the world which are working on application of Carl Rogerss theory example Association for the Development of the Person-Centered Approach in the United States, in Europe Gesellschaft hide Wissenschaftliche Gesprachspsychotherapie in Germany (Kirschenbaum Jourdan, 2005). From January 1, 1987 to September 6, 2004, 141 books, 174 book chapters and 462 journal articles have been published on Carl Rogerss person-centered approach. The International Society for existential Psychotherapy and counselling in London develops programmes for existent existential counsellors, The New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling is set up and also offers distance learning co urse in existential counselling. There has been an increase in the number of training institutes for counsellors considering existential therapy (Corey, 2013). Existential practicing counsellors have increased over the past 20 year and case studies have proved the efficacy of the approach. (McLeod, 1998). Existential approach has been beneficial for people who are facing mid-life crisis worrying about approaching old age. The therapy helps them to overcome fear of death and diseases in old age (Becker, 2006). Existential therapy is widely accepted and applied with anxious and depressed adolescents who have concerns like identity issues, isolation, scared of entering adulthood, leading aimless life. It has been tell that there has been a steady increase in the number of adolescents experiencing existential therapy (Shumaker, 2012).Limitations for TherapistExistential therapist lack clear guideline for practice and therapist find practicing therapy at times unclear, especially who d o not have a philosophical mind frame. Existential theory has no techniques and there are situations when therapist needs to borrow techniques from other schools to have evidence based practice and be able to evaluate therapy outcomes and effectiveness. The most important limitation in existential counselling is the therapist needs to be mentally healthy otherwise the therapist can undergo emotional drain while practicing existential therapy (Corey, 2013).Person-centered counselling has its limitations there are no intervention strategies and techniques leading to unaccountability of therapist with no evidence of effective therapy. Person-centered therapy is a non-directed therapy and there are times therapists are not satisfied with clients decisions. The therapist also feel incapacitated when they are not able to express their viewpoint after listening to the client to make the therapy more effective (Corey, 2013).Synergy of Career Counselling and CounsellingCareer counselling for career development is useful in helping people to get the right job. Career development plays an important role in guiding and acquainting people to the change in the environment. Individuals who satisfied in their career work towards a goal, their job traits matching their personality and they make choices out of their experiences to create a better future (Amundson et al., 2009). Existential therapy has benefited mid-life career decision, helped clients to re-evaluate their career satisfaction with meaningful existence (Cohen, 2003).John Holland based his career counselling on finding the right blend between a persons personality and work environment, closer the match great the satisfaction in career (Isaacson Brown, 2000).According to Holland success and personal consistency is inevitable when there is congruency between individual and the career with a right blend of personality and job. (Andersen, 2006).John Krumboltz theory is based on individuals learning of new skills thr ough their experiences. According to Krumboltz people are born with genetic distinctiveness such as race, genders, physique. People build their observation and task skills when they come in contact with the environment, while undergoing social and cultural change. Career counselling based on this theory helps an individual to learn from their experiences and move on to make choices to achieve success (Amundson et al., 2009).Career development counselling approaches of Holland and Krumboltz and existential -humanistic counselling approaches synergize very well with each other. All of these approaches guide the client to overcome their dilemmas in life or career. Person-centered approach works well with individuals who are confused about their future career directions and need interpersonal adjustments in career or are facing developmental or personal growth issues. Existential approach is appropriate for advance individuals to examine the process of decision making between present a nd future actions empowering them to make career choices based on their judgments (Dahir Stone, 2011).ConclusionApproaches have been discussed in specific they are under one umbrella called existential-humanistic approach focusing on human experience and authentic therapeutic relationship. Existential and person-centered theories are in congruence with my strong belief in the positive nature of all human beings. After reviewing both theories in detail, would like to synergize both the theories and unify them into my own core theory without diluting the theoretical commitments. In my opinion existential and person-centered have similar viewpoints and they both rely on experiential therapy for clients when in crisis or paradox in their current life situations (Van, 2002). They share an underlying assumption that clients are trustworthy and they have the freedom to make congruent choices to lead a meaningful life. They have a common emphasis on quality relationship between client and the counsellor and techniques have no role to play in the therapeutic environment (Corey, 2013).While working on the piece, also came to a conclusion that career counselling theories of Holland and Kramboltz can be integrated with counselling theories. I in person feel counsellors can have an eclectic approach and choose theories and their techniques in situations accordingly (Amundson et al., 2009).
